VARIOUS BUILDINGS

Since setting up the museum in 2017, we have done our utmost to ensure that the museum buildings are easily accessible and wherever possible, wheelchair friendly. We made sure that pathways benefit from radius corners to make wheelchair use easier and that doorways are wide. At present the Anderson Shelter and the Police Station are not wheelchair accessible - not through choice - simply due to their construction. But the Ration Book Café and the outdoor seating areas are all accessible. Within the exhibition halls, there are seating facilities and reasonably wide viewing spaces. There are also seats outside. We have disabled toilet facilities if required. In case of Emergency, we also have a Defibrillator.

SURROUNDING AREAS

There are disabled parking facilities adjacent to the museum entrance and during busy periods, a fenced overflow parking area, so there is no need to park along the side of the road. At the rear of the site a large, grassed and fully fenced display area with a driveway to the end. Adjacent to our site is Defence Area 35, the WW2 part of defence of the Port of Boston. It includes gun emplacements, a searchlight housing and shelters. Although not part of the museum, we do have access to them, and a group of our younger volunteers regularly offer a knowledgeable and well-presented tour of them.
